What it costs
Hugs are free and always will be. Nobody having a bad night should ever meet a price. What can be paid for is the meeting side of the site, and the free tier is a complete way to use this rather than a trial of it.
What is being sold
A paid membership period on a community kindness platform: a fixed number of months of defined features on this website, bought in advance, delivered to the account that paid for it. It is a digital service. Nothing is shipped and there is nothing to deliver physically — see how a membership is delivered.
And, because each of these gets assumed:
- This is not a donation, and not a charity. Nothing here is solicited as a contribution to a cause. A member pays a stated price and receives the stated features in return; every one of them is listed below and enforced in code. No part of this site asks for or accepts a donation.
- This is not a dating or matchmaking service. People do meet here, and there is a part of the site for that — but nothing is sold on the promise of a match, no outcome is promised or implied, and no tier changes who is shown to whom on merit. A paid boost lengthens the odds of being seen; it never re-ranks people by what they paid. Nobody can buy the ability to watch somebody else: presence and read receipts are mutual and free, and what a membership buys is the ability to hide while still seeing.
- This is not a helpline, and not counselling. Nobody here is a professional anything. If today is a hard one, the people who do that properly are here.
- Nothing recurs. There is no stored card, no mandate and no automatic renewal. You pay once for a period, it runs out, and we email you before it does.

Every total below is the amount for the whole period, discount already applied. The monthly price is the same one the longer periods are worked out from.

Which currency applies is decided by where the payment is made from: members in India pay in rupees, everybody else in dollars. Rupee prices are set lower than the dollar price deliberately, for purchasing power — they are not converted from it, and the rate between them is not a live exchange rate.
Prices are inclusive of any tax that applies. No tax is added at checkout and no figure is quoted for one, because the company holds no GST registration and a rate it could not justify is worse than none.

Every line above is read from the same object the site checks before letting anybody do any of it, so a capability cannot be advertised here and missing there.
How to buy, and how to stop
Opening gently. freehug.me is open gently — a few people at a time, so that anyone who asks for a hug actually gets one. If you are here, you are welcome; we are still growing carefully rather than all at once. The prices above are what a membership costs and what the payment pages already charge — they are not a projection — but if you have not been invited, /join will tell you so rather than take your money.
You need an account first, because a membership attaches to one. Join or sign in, then /membership takes the payment and starts the period.
There is nothing to cancel. A membership does not renew by itself, so no subscription can be forgotten and nothing can be silently charged. If you want the money back, the refund policy says when — seven days unconditionally, and pro rata after that where we got something wrong.
Questions about any of this reach a person at care@freehug.me. If something here has frightened you or somebody has asked you for money, safety@freehug.me is the separate desk for that and is read first. If a complaint has not been put right, the Grievance Officer is named.
Who takes the money
Payments are collected by Saptarang Ventures (OPC) Private Limited, CIN U43900MH2023OPC413456, the company that owns and operates freehug.me. A refund is issued by the same company, through the same processor the payment came in by.
